1. What is SNiPiTRON?

SNiPiTRON is a research-focused service for professionals and academics to build projects that consist of web pages, file attachments, screenshots and audio/video content. 2. Why should I use this?

  • Get Organized: Keep all of your project materials in one place - websites, files, screenshots and documentation.
  • Get Optimized: Projects are search engine-friendly and RSS-enabled. This means that if you make a project public, it will be optimized and distributed automatically to anyone subscribing to SNiPiTRON news feeds.
  • Collaborate: Private groups allow you to work on a project collaboratively - great for school research projects and team communications.
  • Fix old habits: The days of sending huge emails with attachments and links is over. Post content to a SNiPiTRON project and take advantage of the easy sharing and collaboration tools.

    4. Is this secure? Can I really keep private data on your site?

    Yes. SNiPiTRON is hosted with Cari.net Managed Hosting. Our service level agreement with Cari.net is the best in the industry - daily incremental data backups, weekly full backups and 1-hour hardware replacement guarantees on our servers and networking equipment. We pay a premium for the best service and we extend these terms to our users through the tools that we offer on SNiPiTRON. Private projects can only be accessed by yourself and members who you have specifically provided access. SNiPiTRON also encrypts sensitive information (like passwords) in our database to help protect your private data. 128-bit SSL encryption is used during login/registration processes to protect your information when using the service over public wi-fi networks.

    5. Who are you?

    SNiPiTRON's founders are not new to secure online services. In 1997 the founders started a company called Apollo Solutions, Inc. which was acquired by CNET Networks in June of 2000. The product we built transformed into CNET ChannelOnline which is the leading back-end order processing platform for the computer products industry - handling billions of dollars in transactions across thousands of computer resellers in the United States. The founders are also involved in several startups including JiWire and Callpod.

    6. How do I format the text in my projects to look nice?

    7. How can I embed my SNiPiTRON projects into my web site?

    At the bottom of every search page and research page, there is a syndication module that contains links to syndicate the page that looks like this:

    For example, Let's say your username is "joe":
    RSS Feed of joe's stuff:

    http://rss.snipitron.com/joe

    RSS Feed of SNiPiTRON's latest research:
    http://rss.snipitron.com

    Dynamic HTML of joe's stuff (copy and paste this into your website):
    <script src="http://links.snipitron.com/joe" language="Javascript"></script>

    Dynamic HTML of SNiPiTRON's latest research:
    <script src="http://links.snipitron.com/" language="Javascript"></script>

    And don't forget, since SNiPiTRON supports unicode (UTF-8) character sets by default, you probably want to add this tag to your section of your web page:
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=UTF-8" />
    </head>

    Note: SNiPiTRON supports many languages. The format of the URL structure is like this:
    http://<language_code>.<feed_type>.snipitron.com/<username>/<Project_Title>/<Citation_Title>
    For example:
  • http://fr.rss.snipitron.com/joe (French RSS feed of joe's stuff)
  • http://cn.links.snipitron.com/search?s=life (Chinese embedded HTML of a search)
  • http://jp.snipitron.com/joe (Japanese homepage)

    11. Can I get a backup of all my projects?

    If you require a backup of your content (which can easily reach into the Gigabytes), there is a charge for delivery of a DVD via FedEx. Please contact us if you require this service. If you deleted a file or project that needs to be restored from backups, there may also be a charge depending upon the volume of data.

    12. Do I have to make all of my research publicly available?

    No, you can specify a project to be public or private. When you make your research public, it will allow the world to benefit from your findings. If you make your project private you can still share it with others by using the Private Group feature. When you assign a project to be private, you'll see the private groups settings form like this:
    You'll find this private group feature in the "New Research" page and "Project Settings" form within your project.
