Apple has not shown much interest in fixing the problem. Is there a way to store the data somewhere while I update, and then, after I lose all my data, reimport it? As I understand it, restoring the iPhone would take me back to the old version of Keeper, wouldn't it?

Well, the good news is that I just released a new update which provides FTP import and export of your data from Keeper. The bad news for you is that you can't appear to install updates. Hmmm...

I, at least, am more than willing to enter all my data ONCE if I have to, to get this functionality. What version has this feature, and when do you think it will migrate through to the App Store. Is the FTP file encrypted data (I would expect so)? Then the next obvious question - when will you release the OSX app that let's me edit the data on the Mac?

The FIRST release of the Import/Export is not encrypted because Apple will take forever to approve it due to export compliance. The next version will support encryption of the data. Plus if it's encrypted, it won't be much use for syncing to Excel, etc.

I have re-booted, I have restored, and I have restored from older and older backups - until the old backup was from my iPhone 2g which failed on the restore

Can you perform app updates directly on the App store of your iPhone? That might be a better solution until the import/export feature is ready on Keeper.

I don't have the exact error number - something like "Unknown error 0x800000E" I know it is a bad idea, that is why I sent this post without doing this. I cannot update either from the iPhone or from iTunes, and from the looking I've done until I wipe everything and start over I'm stuck. All my other apps wiping things are not so terrible - address/contacts/mail gets updated back from Mobile Me. Yea I lose the level I've gotten to on a few games, but still not a ig deal - it will be fun getting back. So as it is right now, if you release an update, for me to install it I have to delete it from iTunes and iPhone and buy it again - and lose all my data

I have a problem - my iPhone is refusing to update apps, I get an error with any updated iPhone app when I sync to iTunes. There is a "third party" suggest solution to this - delete all your apps from both iTunes and iPhone - delete all backups and sync so all apps are really gone - then "buy" all the apps again (when you buy an app that you have bought before there is no charge).

This means that all the local data is for every app is lost - with most apps not that big a deal. But with Keeper this is a big issue - I've got way too many records entered by thumb to want to re-enter all that data.

Suggestions?

I would still like the data on the computer to be protected. It would be nicer if the data were accessible from all of my computers - and an easy way to do that might be to store the data on my iDisk rather than the local drive, but then the backup by iTunes would not get it there (unless there is some way to hook that) and there would be potential sync issues. I'd rather it only worked from one computer than get sync errors.
I agree and I plan on doing something simple in terms of import/export of data. I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible, and I'm leaning more towards import/export of a file. I'm also working on a separate backup mechanism that bypasses iTunes altogether. Any feedback on that is appreciated.

Well, I'm not sure how you would activate that, but I'd want it to auto run when I plugged in my iPhone, or better yet keep it up to date over the web, but that would require an ssl connection to your mac or wintel on the web at a dynamic ip address (easier for the few with static ip's)

Maybe you can extract the data from the iPhone backup file, but getting it back one the iPhone is a meaner trick. I didn't say I knew how to do it, just that I wanted it:-)

I agree. It would be terrific if there were an equivalent app on Windows that could use the same database. I am really looking forward to some sort of categorization. The list of entries in my Keeper is quite long.

The other thing that would be nice is a few templates for specific uses, credit cards specifically.

Here's one more idea. I entered a lot of phone numbers for the credit cards, both 800 and non-800 for international use. Rather than enter the numbers here, how abotu creating a ling of some kind to a Contacts entry?

It turns out that this is a new laptop. The laptop was not "authorised" for my iTunes collection. Seems a little bizarre since the app is for my iPhone. In iTunes, pull down Store/Authorise computer. Once authorised, Keeper sync'ed down onto the phone and everything worked.

NOTE - This was a problem even when I bypassed iTunes and used the app store on the iPhone.

I am at 4 of my alotted 5 computers. Since 2 of the 4 authorised computers no longer exist, I am not sure how this can be resolved in the future.

Once again I get "The application 'Keeper' was not installed on the iPhone "Bob's iPhone"because you are not authorised for it on this computer."

Bob, I recommend that you simply reboot your iPhone. Then just sync again with iTunes and I bet it will work. If the icon appears and won't load, try deleting it and re-adding the app.

Just bought my first app on iTunes after buying a new 3G. It tells me the app is "not authorised" for my iPhone. I can't find any way "authorise" it. Otherwise, sync works fine with Outlook contacts, favorites, etc. What might the problem be?

Very upsetting. Apple refuses to answer me why this happens to some users during upgrade. Really pisses me off. I hope you had a backup of your iPhone as I describe in the update message and also on the Keeper main page in iTunes. Let me know.

Try re-installing it from the App Store or sync again with iTunes.. I heard one other person with this issue and that seemed to resolve it.

I have an iPod Touch with the 2.0.2 update. Keeper transferred onto the Touch but won't launch once there. Any ideas?

I just posted an update which lets you change your password. But I don't think Apple will release it to everyone for another 10 days (that's how long it took last time)

The way Apple developed their platform... you cannot modify other apps. The app you write is only allowed to exist in it's own "sandbox" with access to your own data. So unfortunately I believe there's no way to add a password to other applications beside one that I write.

I would like to add categories, but I don't want to make it difficult to use. I'll come up with something.

iTouch users - if the app does not install properly, delete it and re-add it through the wireless/wi-fi link. One user reported that this fixed his issue.
craiglurey Wed, Aug 20 2008 05:13 PDT
A user posted a comment about Keeper staying open when your iPhone screen locks. I fixed this in my development version and it will be released in an update. Apple has been very very slow at releasing updates, I need to contact them.

Please note - deleting Keeper and re-syncing will erase your data. If you do this by mistake, just restore your iPhone from iTunes "Restore" feature
craiglurey Tue, Aug 19 2008 09:35 PDT
In the next version there will be a screen to change your master password. But for now, you would have to delete the application from your device and then re-sync from iTunes.

Many people have asked me about how the data in Keeper is backed up. When you run iTunes, you can back up your device which includes apps and app data. To force a backup, right click your iPhone/iPod under "Devices" within iTunes and select "Back Up". If you ever need to restore your data, simply perform a restore in iTunes. I have tested this and it works as expected. Please make sure you have the latest version of iTunes and also upgrade to 2.1 firmware on your iPhone if you haven't already.
